The impact of the gender pay gap on house buying

We are celebrating all our female house hunters and home owners this month. However, the ever-present pay gap between men and women continues to make buying a home harder for women. Here are a few facts that highlight this:

  • In 2021, the gender pay gap in the UK increased to 15.4%.
  • 9% of homes were bought by single men, compared to just 6.6% by single women.
  • Higher earners, including Directors and Senior Managers, experience the largest difference in hourly pay.
  • More women work part-time jobs, which in comparison with full-time jobs have lower hourly median pay.
  • Women aged 50 and over experience the largest gender pay gap.
